John Mellencamp quit smoking
John Mellencamp’s son wants his dad to give up the smokes, and Mellencamp has agreed..sort of. He says he’ll quit, or at least cut down, if Speck, yeah, you read that right, can get a million people to join his Facebook anti-smoking campaign. You know what’s funny? Looking up how many attention whores have ‘if a million people join this facebook, I will do such and such garbage to garner attention’ and then seeing how like, thirty people have joined. Keep pushing that rock uphill, people! Anyway, about a hundred thousand people have said ‘hey, why not’ and joined Speck’s cause.
It’s kind of surprising that a political guy like John Mellencamp is a chain smoker. Sure, he’s gotten a lot less cool since he dropped the Cougar, an expression I am determined to work into the American vernacular, but he’s always been a really interesting guy with good intentions, sharp observations, and a desire to change and improve the world. Therefor, health risks aside, it’s surprising he’d support Big Tobacco, who have their thumbs in virtually every corporate pie. It’s always been a bit ironic to me when I go to protests or rallies and see Black Bloc members smoking Marlboro cigarettes. That’s the epitome of The Man, man! Keep you hooked to an addictive product for corporate greed! Throw away those chains.
