Chewing Tobacco Results in Violation

by admin

positive for tobacco
At Law Day, on Monday morning at the Shoshone County Courthouse, Judge Fred Gibler didn’t look favorably upon all of the alleged criminals that went before him, revoking one man’s probation, issuing a warrant for another and leaving one man’s future in limbo while he decides what the best course of action is.
Michael McCarley was hours away from completing his second retained jurisdiction when he accepted some chewing tobacco from a fellow inmate while he was working on the grounds. read more…

designated as smoking areas
This is a fact check for Don Tuttle’s May 6 perspective, “Control is the anti-smoking group’s real agenda.”
According to the current municipal code 8.16.010, smoking is prohibited in public places unless those places or parts of those places are designated as smoking areas. Translation — people can smoke in a public building, if there is a designated area to do so. read more…

After months of an undercover investigation in 2008, a York County sheriff’s deputy finally had enough evidence to charge Brandon Gomez, then 18, with intent to distribute marijuana.

Each of these local health boards is considering a tobacco regulation ordinance that includes a provision to require cigars to be sold in packages of four or more and at minimum wholesale and retail prices.

A steady stream of customers was filing through the Smoke House in Hannibal around midday one day last week. But while business is good now at the Mark Twain Avenue store, smokers and those who cater to them are concerned over the possibility of a ballot proposal that would ask voters to significantly increase the state’s tobacco tax.
“Absolutely we’re concerned about it affecting our business,” said Feleicia Martin, store manager. read more…

Fight tobacco products that prey on children

Fight tobacco products
I am writing in response to “Smokeless tobacco products resemble candy, target children, prevention leaders say,” published on April 3. It’s a well known fact that the tobacco industry consistently targets youth with their products, but the new practice of developing and marketing products that are candy and fruit flavored is a whole new low for this industry. It’s obvious who they’re going after and while the flavors mask the taste and smell of tobacco, it doesn’t take away from the poison that those using these products are putting into their bodies. read more…

futility for Japan Tobacco
Japan Tobacco Inc.’s longtime dream of cracking the pharmaceutical big leagues took a blow this week with Roche Holding AG’s decision to abandon a cholesterol drug discovered by the Tokyo company. Are we talking about the same Japan Tobacco? Yes, for a quarter-century Japan’s leading cigarette maker has also had a pharmaceutical research division. One of its major finds in the 1990s was a drug to raise levels of so-called “good cholesterol,” later named dalcetrapib.
