Norwalk Implements Smoking Ban in All City Parks
In response to Red Flag warnings from federal and state officials about the increased risk of brush fires in the region, due to the exceptionally dry spring and recent high winds, Norwalk has imposed a temporary ban on smoking in all city parks.
The ban was imposed on Thursday, according to a report on WTNH, and will remain in effect until fire risk conditions change. As of Saturday the National Weather Service was forecasting clouds and intermittent light rain for the region starting Sunday night, lasting through Wednesday.
“We encourage all visitors to our parks to observe this smoking prohibition for the preservation and safety of our treasured community resources,” Norwalk Fire Chief Denis McCarthy said in a statement on the city’s website.
Interestingly, the region was under the same warning in late March last year.
